BIO

Your Favorite Enemies began 8 years ago in a Montreal basement when singer Alex Foster and guitar player Steph Lemelin formed the folk rock band The Riddlers. Joined by bass player Ben Lemelin and singer Isabel Paradis, The Riddlers signed a production deal with an American company based in Nashville, toured as much in Canada as in the United States and launched 2 independent albums. After a little more than five years, as difficult as the decision was to make considering all the work done to establish The Riddlers on the American folk scene, the members of the group decided to turn the page on one of the most exciting time of their lives when they call it quit in Spring of 2003.

"We had gone as far as we could go. Wed lived The Riddlers adventure right until the end; we took a lot of risks, and were audacious. We had nothing to start with, no Arcade Fire or Simple Plan to open doors for Montreals bands, only crazy dreams, which brought us as far as we could go... Even if we got close to the ultimate American record deal quite a few times, for a multitude of reasons it didnt happen. Its been our own school of rock, so we had no regrets to say goodbye says Alex following his decision to disband The Riddlers.
After several months of rest, writing and studio work, the band previously known as The Riddlers came back with guitar player Jeff Beaulieu in the beginning of 2004 under the moniker In This Life, an alternative rock band, and launched the Quiet Day for Sunshine Breathers album."

"The feeling of being back on stage was incredible. The simple fact that we didnt have to carry the weight of all The Riddlers expectations made all the difference, it was the incarnation of a new beginning. We had much more experience, a renewed vision for music and a real desire to start everything over again. We had to put those five years behind us and move on. I guess thats why we formed In This Life so quickly; it was more a reaction to the past than a well planned decision. We kinda knew what we wanted musically and were developing a more genuine way to approach the writing and the music business. We like to call the In This Life period a happy accident In fact, it was kind of a prequel to Your Favorite Enemies. explains Ben following the bands comeback as In This Life."

2004 began with force for In This Life. While the members of the group were working on new material, the band has been invited to showcase at the prestigious Canadian Music Week, refused a record deal with an American Indie label and began an important relationship with a BMG director acting as a business adviser for the band. Meanwhile, Alex Fosters relentless campaigns against a well organised white supremacist organisation distributing free copies of racist artists in North-American high schools put In This Life in every major Canadian media as anti-racist activists. Not only did this push American authorities to take action against the racist schoolyard project, but it also gave birth to Rock N Rights, the band pro human rights pennant. Furthermore, an important movie director approached Foster to make a documentary on his life, including his past as a young Neo Nazi leader, his present role as a spokesperson for Amnesty International and his music.

"What a way to start a new band. It was crazy up until December 2004. Concerts, writing, studio sessions, business trips, conferences, media craze and life threatening over Alexs life by international Neo-Nazi organisations. It was more Rock N Roll than anything weve experienced as The Riddlers lets say we were far from the Nashville folk scene. I must admit that we were a little ambitious and were walking ahead with confidence. We didnt have any promotional tools or fancy press kits, only a strong desire to go further than we did with The Riddlers. adds Isabel on In This Lifes first years."

2005 became an important year for In This Lifes members. Over the years, theyve had many opportunities to associate with different managers, but instinctively, they felt that certain unions would not allow them to reach their full potential. Therefore, they hung on to convictions, were patient, and perfected their sound until they received a call from Bob Luthala, one of the most influential and respected manager (I Mother Earth, Edwin, Mobile) in Canada. After welcoming drummer Charles Allicy and signing with Luthala Management in the late 2005, the band decided to change its name to Your Favorite Enemies in early 2006 and started the working process on their first album: Love is a Promise Whispering Goodbye under Matt De Matteo producer directions.

"Changing our name happened quite naturally Charles came in on drums, we had a new writing approach, a strong business orientation, so it became clear that our bands name didnt portrait our career orientation any longerIn This Life was some kinda new wave philosophical name and we were musically going in a total different trend. Although this decision was evident, the changes nonetheless implicated enormous consequences regarding the band's visibility a good buzz was surrounding the band, the music industry top players already knew the band and we had massive media exposure over the past years under the moniker In This Life. Nervertheless, we decided to follow our instincts and adopted the name YOUR FAVORITE ENEMIES which better represents our musical and spiritual state regarding the upcoming album and our career direction. concludes Alex Foster regarding the bands name direction."

Strong of their past experiences, lessons learned and great desire to achieve their musical ambitions, Your Favorite Enemies are more than ready to deliver an amazing first album and bring their songs over new frontiers.

2004 débute en force pour « In This Life ».
